About Jan Aushadhi Medicines
A Jan Aushadhi Kendra is a government-authorized pharmacy that sells quality generic medicines at affordable prices under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). These Kendras are operated by entrepreneurs, NGOs, and charitable organizations empaneled by BPPI (Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India). There are over 10,000+ Kendras across India.
Yes, absolutely. All Jan Aushadhi medicines are sourced from WHO-GMP certified manufacturers and tested at NABL-accredited laboratories for quality, purity, and potency. They meet the same standards set by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) as branded medicines.
The quality is NOT lower — the price is lower because: (1) No R&D or drug discovery costs, (2) No expensive marketing or advertising, (3) No brand premium, (4) Government-capped prices through NPPA, (5) Direct procurement through BPPI tendering. The active ingredient (salt/molecule) is identical to branded equivalents.
In terms of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), yes — they are the same. Both contain the identical molecule at the same strength. The only differences are the brand name, packaging, and price. Generic medicines produce the same therapeutic effect as branded ones.
A branded medicine is the original drug sold under a trade name by the company that developed it (e.g., Crocin by GSK). A generic medicine contains the same active ingredient (e.g., Paracetamol) but is sold under its chemical/generic name, usually by a different manufacturer, at a much lower price. Both must meet the same quality standards.

Buying Medicines
For Schedule H and Schedule H1 drugs (most antibiotics, cardiac medicines, diabetic medicines, etc.), you need a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner. For OTC (over-the-counter) medicines like Paracetamol, Cetirizine, ORS, etc., no prescription is needed.
Yes! In fact, the Medical Council of India (now NMC) recommends that doctors prescribe medicines by their generic name. You can request your doctor to write the salt/molecule name instead of a brand name, and our Kendra staff will provide the Jan Aushadhi equivalent.
Yes, if the active ingredient, strength, and dosage form are the same. For example, if your doctor prescribed branded "Crocin 500mg" (Paracetamol), you can buy Jan Aushadhi Paracetamol 500mg — it contains the exact same medicine. Always confirm with your doctor or our pharmacist if unsure.
We stock over 1,800+ generic medicines covering all major therapeutic categories — antibiotics, cardiac, diabetic, respiratory, gastrointestinal, neurology, psychiatric, thyroid, pain management, and more. We also carry 200+ surgical and wellness products. If a specific medicine is temporarily out of stock, we can arrange it within a few days.
As per drug safety regulations, medicines once sold cannot be returned or exchanged. This is a standard policy across all pharmacies in India to prevent tampered or counterfeit medicines from entering the supply chain. Please verify your purchase before leaving the Kendra.
We accept cash, UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), and other digital payment methods. We do not currently accept credit/debit cards or insurance direct billing.

Pricing & Savings
On average, you can save 50–90% compared to branded medicine prices. For example, branded Paracetamol 500mg (10 tabs) costs ₹30–40, while Jan Aushadhi Paracetamol costs ₹3–5. The savings are especially significant for chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
Jan Aushadhi medicine prices are fixed and regulated by BPPI. The same medicine costs the same at every Jan Aushadhi Kendra across India. Prices may be revised periodically by BPPI, but you will always find the current prices displayed on our price list.
Jan Aushadhi medicines are already priced at the lowest possible rates (50–90% below branded). There is no additional discount scheme, but the PMBJP prices themselves are the most affordable in India for equivalent quality medicines.
